With Ed Rollins as Reagan's National Campaign Director the campaign recovered to win one of the most amazing election victories in American history, turning that 18-point deficit into an 18 percent advantage in the popular vote. On Election Day the campaign won 49 out of 50 states and the highest number of electoral votes ever in the Electoral College.
